Born to Run

This week was a lot of homework because two of my classes end this week, so we have a lot of final papers, exams, and presentations. BUT, this week was also awesome because we started training with the distance running coach at school!! We haven't seen the coach we talked to initially very much because we have been running earlier in the morning than he is there, but we finally saw him again on Wednesday. We asked if he had any suggestions or tips for us, and he said since he is the coach for the sprinters and the high jump to come back later in the day to meet the distance track coach. So after class, we went over and without ever learning his name, he just had us start running, even though we had all already run a couple of miles that day. We ran for a half hour, then did sprints, then did abs, and then he made us do all of these stretches that I thought were literally going to kill me, like the splits. Sorry, buddy, definitely never going to happen! But he was so nice and just kept laughing at us as we struggled to survive his "light" workout. He told us that practice is at 5 every day at a track in San Andres, a different part of Cholula like a 25 minute walk from where we live, and the track is right next too the pyramid that we can see everywhere in Cholula.

The last two days we have gone and its been so great!! We finally learned his name, Victor, and he works with the distance runners at UDLA, who are so good it's crazy, and then since there aren't a ton of them, he also works with a local high school as well. One day he had us do a ton of sprints, one day we did a distance run, and even though I can barely walk right now, I am so excited for my marathon!! He told me that not only would I finish my marathon, but I would do so in a faster time than I would have thought I could do. He's making us run stuff I never would have before, and I think its so cool that he's just helping us out because he wants too. Such a nice guy, even though right now my legs/body want to kill me, I love working with a coach. We have practice every day at 5 Monday through Friday, and they also have Saturday practice at 8. When he told us that, we just started laughing and said that wasn't going to happen and so he's just giving us our workouts to do later. awesome. It's just a lot of fun, and I am loving it!!
